OUR GRANT VISION
Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is a grant-making organization dedicated to saving lives and ending breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

The Colorado Springs Affiliate is one of a network of 119 Affiliates around the country that support this vision.

We award grants to not-for-profit organizations that provide breast health/breast cancer screening, treatment support, and education to the medically uninsured, underinsured, or at-risk populations in our 3-county area (El Paso, Pueblo, Teller.) Our local Affiliate spends 75% of the net proceeds from fund raising within the 3-county area in addition to sending 25% to Komen National to support their national research grants. So far, we have given $4,363,543 in grants!

In order to ensure these funds have the greatest impact, our Affiliate conducts a bi-annual community needs assessment to establish priorities for funding that address identified breast health needs of our community. Using a grant-making process modeled after Susan G. Komen for the Cure's Award and Research Grant Program, a request for proposals is publicized and an objective grant review process selects the most qualified applications for funding. Community representatives, local breast health professionals, and breast cancer survivors evaluate the merit of all proposals to determine which ones best serve our community's identified needs.

HOW OUR GRANTS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
“No mom, no parent wants their child to go hungry. Project Angel Heart meant my daughter and I would eat nutritious meals. Words can not express how grateful I am to know that Project Angel Heart’s services were there when we needed them.” – Angela age 35 living with breast cancer
