2009 SURVIVOR LUNCHEON & FASHION SHOW Despite miserable weather, almost 300 hardy breast cancer survivors and supporters attended the 2009 Breast Cancer Survivors Celebration Luncheon at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 13. Guests milled about the Plaza, sipping punch and listening to Holly Schmitz, the pianist, as she entertained guests. When the doors opened to the Fellowship Hall, it was a vision of pink and white with beautiful flower centerpieces donated by Skyway Creations Flower Shop and Greenery. The luncheon, co-chaired by Mitzi Fideler and Nancy Forgy, was hosted by the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. The emcee, C. J. Moore, with Kaiser Permanente, introduced Joan Schultz, Affiliate Board President and Stacy Poore, the new Executive Director. Many breast cancer survivors were recognized including the longest survivor. Meanwhile the photographer, Reed Domnik, was busy snapping photos of everyone in attendance. Following lunch, Margo Allenbach from Coldwater Creek narrated the fashion show. The 2009 Affiliate Honorary Survivors modeling were Chris McCloy , El Paso County; Debby Foresta, Pueblo County; and Phyllis Stofa, Teller County, which are the three counties that the Affiliate serves. Keith Boettcher and Sheldon Cotton escorted the following models, who are also survivors: Patty Asher, Diane Bergman, Carol Duke, Jennifer Pierce, Aida Richardson and Mary Jo Rosazza. A moving performance by the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale, also known for their purity of tone, beautiful harmonies and lively choreography, provided the entertainment following the fashion show. “It was a lovely ending to a beautiful event,” said Mitzi Fideler, the founding member of the Southeastern Colorado Affiliate. Special thanks was given to the luncheon sponsors, RE/MAX Rocky Mountain States, Daniels Chevyland, Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers, and the Giddings Foundation, who graciously donated funds to cover the cost of lunch for each of the breast cancer survivors and Coldwater Creek, who provided the clothing that the survivors wore in the fashion show.
